Core Philosophy

The Standard

PRS is no longer a hobby. It is an athletic discipline pursued at the level of a professional athlete pursuing the NBA. The money is spent, the time is committed, and the standard is set:

Every single practice is match level. No exceptions.

That means:

  • Full kit every rep
  • PEWS run for every stage, every time
  • Time on the clock every string
  • Spotter calling every impact
  • Data logged every session

There is no "just getting rounds down range." There is no "warmup" that doesn't count. There is no casual shooting. If the rifle comes out of the case, the standard is match-grade.

The Mental Model

Treat practice like you treat the match. Treat the match like you treated practice. The only variable on match day should be the course of fire — never your process.

Non-Negotiables

  1. Match-grade gear condition every session. Torque checked, zero confirmed, DOPE validated, chassis tight, mount secure.
  2. Match-grade prep every session. DOPE card built, wind call made, stage planned before the timer.
  3. Match-grade mindset every session. One shot at a time. One plate at a time. No "redo" — every shot counts for score.
  4. Match-grade logging every session. Every stage, every miss, every correction written down. If it isn't logged, it didn't happen.

Failure Mode

The most common failure is self-deception: telling yourself a practice "didn't count" because you weren't feeling it, the wind was weird, the gun was being weird, etc. Matches don't care. The wind will be weird. The gun will act up. You will not feel like it. Train for that, not against it.

The Universality Rule

A direct corollary of match-grade-every-session: every event you attend looks identical from your side. Wednesday practice and the National Championship final get the same prep, the same morning protocol, the same in-stage discipline.

The reason is simple. If your "real" version only shows up for big matches, then big matches require a different version of you to perform — and that version doesn't have the reps. The version you've practiced is the version that walks to the line under pressure. Make sure the version you've practiced is the version that wins.

This rule extends upstream into preparation (Section 16) and downstream into match-day execution (Section 15). The discipline is the same all the way through.
